Event: 10 Week Family Recovery & Communication Skills Course for relatives, partners and friends
| Title | 10 Week Family Recovery & Communication Skills Course for relatives, partners and friends |
|---|---|
| Description | This course is for relatives, partners and friends of people experiencing mental health problems and who have previously completed all 5 of the Recovery College Introductory Family Skills Workshops. The experiential learning programme examines carers’ recovery process and addresses recognisable, cyclical phases that all families go through when someone they love has a mental health problem. The impact of mental health problems differs considerably between and within families. Family members, service users and professionals can share narratives and combine their learning. As knowledge and skills are acquired participants can discover, renew and grow through their personal caring journey. Research trials have shown family skills work to be effective, and family skills work is recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). This course is co-facilitated by Catherine Gamble, Consultant Nurse at SWLStG Mental Health Trust in partnership with Carers in Mind, Richmond, and Kingston Carers' Network. |
