Mental Health and Substance Misuse Carers' Support
Are you supporting someone with mental health or substance misuse problems? Do you, or the person you support, live in the Royal Borough of Kingston? We have the following services available to support you in your caring role:
1 to 1 Advice and Guidance with a mental health and substance misuse carers' support worker
- Telephone
- In person
- Home/community visits
Information - on the recovery approach, diagnosis, medication, recommended treatment options, communication skills, coping strategies etc
Family Skills Workshops – monthly psycho-educational workshops on a variety of subjects for mental health & substance misuse carers for example confidentiality, coping with difficult behaviour symptoms, medication, care planning and risk assessment
Wellbeing and Inclusion Project – a KCN project promoting self care and social inclusion
Complementary Therapies – discounted complementary therapies available
Advice and Guidance – weekly service for all carers delivered by our Legal Advice Worker covering housing, benefits (including help to complete claim forms), employment issues and social care entitlements
Informal Advocacy – for example supporting carers during a carer's assessment or attending joint meetings with mental health professionals
Counselling Service – free service by trainee counsellors, subject to availability
Social Groups – book club, monthly social event and occasional outings
Support to Access Grants carers might be eligible for from statutory and voluntary organisations
