From Carers Trust
In the last couple of years we have put on media training sessions for young carers and young adult carers to help ensure that young carers’ voices are heard on Young Carers Action Day.
The sessions help young carers understand what the media is, how to engage with journalists and give some really useful practical tips on getting ready for an interview as well as tips for actually taking part in an interview.
We have also developed sessions on public speaking as part of the Carers Trust Young Adult Carers Internship programme. These sessions help develop young adult carers to build their confidence and provide them with really useful tips on speaking publicly – whether in a meeting, job interview or a more formal speech.
Young carers have told us how useful they have found these sessions, with some of them going on to deliver media interviews about young carers on stations like BBC Radio Scotland, Sky News and BBC Radio 5 Live.
We’d love you to let young carers and young adult carers in your networks know about these sessions, and encourage them to participate.
The sessions will be online, and support workers/young carer managers are very welcome to attend the sessions too.
The timetable for the sessions is below. We split the media training into nations as the media environment differs between England, Scotland and Wales. Public Speaking sessions are open to everyone, regardless of which nation they live in.
To register for a session, please send an email to youngcarers@carers.org with names of those who will be joining the training session. Please remember to include name and job title of any young carer support worker also joining the sessions.
